Audubon to host Conservation Botanist as she discusses her new book, Field Guide to Wildflowers of Georgia

ATHENS – A Conservation Botanist at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia will discuss the variety and life history of Georgia’s wildflowers from her new 2016 book, Field Guide to Wildflowers of Georgia

Linda Chafin, a Conservation Botanist at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia, will discuss Georgia’s rich plethora of more than 4,000 native plants when the Oconee Rivers Audubon Society’s holds its next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 6th, at Sandy Creek Nature Center.

More than 4,000 species of native plants are found in Georgia. Linda Chafin will take us on a tour of some of our state's finest natural communities and take a look at the natural history of their signature wildflowers. Copies of her latest book, "A Field Guide to the Wildflowers of Georgia," will be available for sale and signing.

Linda Chafin is a Conservation Botanist at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia where she teaches botany classes, conducts plant surveys, and writes about Georgia’s native plants. The University of Georgia Press published her books, “Field Guide to Rare Plants of Georgia” in 2007 and “Field Guide to Wildflowers of Georgia,” in 2016. Linda received a Master’s degree in Botany from UGA in 1988, and has conducted botanical and ecological surveys throughout the southeast.

The meeting will be held in the Nature Center’s Education and Visitor Center, 205 Old Commerce Road off U.S. Highway 441 north of Athens. To reach the center from the Loop 10 bypass, exit at U.S. Highway 441/Commerce Road and turn north toward Commerce. Go approximately a mile, turn left at the Sandy Creek Nature Center sign and go to the end of the road. Turn left at Old Commerce Road; parking for the Education and Visitor Center will be on the right.
