Audubon to host talk by bird biologist on natural history of the Brown-headed Nuthatch

ATHENS – Director of the Stoddard Bird Lab at Tall Timbers Research Station will discuss Sex in the Sitta – the intriguing lives of Brown-headed Nuthatches at the Oconee Rivers Audubon Society's next monthly meeting.

Jim Cox, the director of the Stoddard Bird Lab at Tall Timbers Research Station will discuss his lab’s long-term research on the intriguing lives of the Brown-headed Nuthatch when the Oconee Rivers Audubon Society holds its next meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 7, at the Odum School of Ecology, University of Georgia. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. with wine, cheese, and a silent auction fundraiser. The featured speaker Jim Cox will begin his presentation on the Brown-headed Nuthatch at 7 p.m. Gram for gram, few birds pack as much interesting biology into their feathered frames as the Brown-headed Nuthatch. These fascinating critters are one of the only birds known to use tools and create nesting holes that are used by dozens of other animals. The Stoddard lab has studied Brown-headed Nuthatches for over a decade and Jim will be discussing what the lab has learned about the unique social life of this incredible bird.
