Field Trip to Lotsanotty

Event Date:
Saturday, July 27, 2019 - 8:00am to 10:00am

Note:  This an Oconee River Land Trust event.

The Lotsanotty property was permanently protected with a conservation easement by Walt Cook and the Oconee River Land Trust in 2001. Trails wind through the property's hardwood forest, along the Middle Oconee River, next to a stream, and by a neighboring Christmas tree farm. The property's status as a conservation easement ensures that it will remain free of development forever. This is good news for the warblers, owls, woodpeckers, and other birds that have been observed at Lotsanotty. The new landowner, Ken Cook (Walt's son), is happy to have birders and hikers out to enjoy this 40-acre gem.   We will be joined by ORLT member/volunteer John Workman who will introduce us to the property and the ORLT.

As always, ORAS trips are open to the public, and typically run 3-4 hours.  Please bring binoculars and scopes, if desired, water, snacks etc.  Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear.

Directions (from Oconee Rivers Land Trust newsletter):
Travel north from Athens on Prince Ave/US 129 into Jackson County.  Immediately past the intersection of GA 330 with US 129, turn LEFT onto Lebanon Church Rd.

Then, turn LEFT onto Ford Rd.  Proceed 935 feet to the property entrance on the RIGHT.

Contact Ed Maioriello at fieldtrip AT oconeeriversaudubon.org or at 706-296-5275 for questions.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On occasion, field trips may have to be cancelled (bad weather, etc.) or important details may change (for example, the original meeting spot for a site may have to be changed if there is a trail closure or parking problem). If you plan to attend a birdwalk, ALWAYS check www.oconeeriversaudubon.org the night before for updates.
