ORAS January Meeting will be held virtually

Due to the current surge in Covid cases in Athens and nationwide, Oconee Rivers Audubon Society will move its monthly meeting to Zoom. The meeting is on Thursday, January 6 at 7pm. During the meeting, Sara Watkins, a graduate student at UGA's Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources will be talking about research on the Wild Turkeys in Gerogia currently taking place. Aside from providing an overview of the project, she will delve into past and current research as well as recent advances such as using genomics to understand Wild Turkey social network, and exploring acoustic data using neural network approach.

ORAS resumes in-person monthly meetings at Sandy Creek Nature Center

Please join us for our monthly meeting in person on December 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Masks will be required for attendance. This month's speaker will be Dr. Charles van Rees, who will be talking about the conservation story of the ‘Alae ‘Ula (Hawaiian gallinule). Please see below more details.

ACC Solid Waste Department hosts annual vulture festival

Please join us for the 2021 Vulture Festival on Saturday, October 9th 2021! The festival is hosted by Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department and will be held at the Athens-Clarke-County Landfill (map). The event features bird walks led by members of the Oconee Rivers Audubon Society, as well as educational activities, guided tours of the facilities at the landfill, live birds-of-prey demonstrations, and more! ORAS hosts fundraiser at Southern Brewing Company

We are excited to announce that the Oconee Rivers Audubon Society will be hosting a fundraiser from 5 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Thursday, September 16th at Southern Brewing Company (map) in Athens, GA. ORAS September Kick-Off Meeting Features Talk by UGA Professor on Harnessing Technological Advances to Understand Migratory Bird Declines
